Astuto 40mm 650b 'Fast Gravel' Carbon wheelset with Onyx hubset. Featuring our lightest weight carbon rim with the superior engagement of Onyx hubs and laced with Sapim CX-Ray. This is an ideal wheelset for challenging transcontinental races, fast smooth gravel and rougher pavement sections.
Series 400 astuto 650b fast gravel wheelset
I wanted to build a 650b wheelset that combined the lightweight and nimble feeling of my normal competition wheels. Something that could tackle events like the Japanese Odyssey, Paris Brest Paris or Transcontinental on nearly equal speed and footing as a 700C wheelset. The new Series 400 rimset is carefully chosen layup schedule of higher modulus (T800) fabrics and higher molding pressures to achieve lower weight without sacrifice in strength or durability. The rim profile is optimized around 40mm x 30mm giving it very good aerodynamics with 42-44c tires. Of course you can run normal 650b tire up to 55c or so with no issues on the hookless bead section rim.
Rims: 40mm deep x 30mm wide with 22mm inside bead fitting (hookless). Tubeless ready.
Hubs: Onyx RD or CX Discbrake. Many colors and variations available.
Spokes: Sapim CX-Ray / CX-Sprint. Other options considered.
Nipples: Sapim brass securelock. (Blind installed)
Finish: UD Flatt Matte with NPWT Decals. Retroreflective.
Weight: Rims are 400gr +/- 5 %, For the Series 400 - I do handselect to keep them all as close to 400gr as possible.
Wheelset Weight: 990g (R) nad 730g (F)
Each set is individually hand made from hub to rim - so we can consider a bit more options in terms of hub, spoke and finish selections. If you have a special painting or decal request - we can consider that too! With a reasonable upcharge.
